The McMinnville School District recently agreed to address a complaint that the District was dismissing students with disabilities earlier than their general education peers. This early dismissal led to reduce instruction time, which violates federal law. The superintendent of the District signed a voluntary resolution with the Office of Civil Rights that will require the District to “assess its programs, determine the number of students involved and time they lost, and review and revise its policies and procedures to ensure all students get the same amount of instruction.” The District will also be required to provide compensatory education to any student who lost instructional time due to being dismissed early.
