Hood River Signs Voluntary Resolution on ADA Violations

An ADA complaint was filed with the Office of Civil Rights (OCR) against Hood River County School District. The complaint alleged that the District was violating accessibility requirements by maintaining inaccessible parking lots and football bleachers.

            The District agreed to address these issues by signing a Voluntary Resolution Agreement (Agreement). The Agreement requires the District to conduct an assessment of the inaccessible parking lots and football bleachers by July 17, 2020. The assessment will include an evaluation of the following concerns of inaccessibility, amongst others:

  1. Insufficient number of accessible parking spaces;
  2. Steepness of slopes to access accessible parking spaces;
  3. Inaccessibility of football bleachers;
  4. Inaccessibility to the restroom facilities from the football bleachers.

            The District must create an action plan to remedy the inaccessible parking spaces and bleachers by July 21, 2020. Then, the District must provide a copy of the assessment and plan to OCR by August 14, 2020, in order to receive any revisions from OCR. The District will have to begin the action plan within 30 days of receiving approval from OCR for their plan.
